The Westphalia Department in Münster

The Westphalia Department stores the documents of 12 centuries of Westphalian history, making it a central point of contact for anyone conducting historical research and also for citizens with an interest in the region.

The material from the former State Archives of Münster includes extensive records of both secular and ecclesiastical territories, as well as the dissolved monasteries and convents of the former Prussian province of Westphalia before 1815.

Today, the Westphalia Department is responsible for state authorities, courts, tax offices and other institutions in the districts of Arnsberg and Münster. As well as keeping state records, the department also houses archived materials from other sources.

It has a modern service area, runs events and issues numerous publications, including a wide range of training material on archiving.
